the announcement and launch of the Yahoo Games Network, a new social gaming network.
The new network is a platform (acquired when they purchased PlayerScale in May 2013) that allows third-party game developers access to Yahoo’s large userbase for distributing their games. The backend comes with the ability to help authenticate players, monetize their games, provide social sharing, analytics, and “ongoing operational support for growth.”
The access developers have now gained stretches across Yahoo’s expansive 800 million users (in which 400 million are mobile gamers).
The new Yahoo Games Network bring the classics that we all know and love — like Yahoo Poker, Yahoo Pool, and Yahoo Bingo — in addition to other hits like KingsRoad, The Last Stand: Deadzone, Ballistic, Bingo Blingo, Rise of Mythos, Vegas World and Slotomania. We’re already working with some of the best developers in the industry like Rumble Entertainment, DreamWorks, SGN, ChangYou, Namco Bandai America, Playtika, FlowPlay, Con Artist Games and many more on web and mobile.
Part of this initiative has also given Yahoo the chance to add new and improved designs and features so the games work “seamlessly” on the Web, Android, and iOS platforms.
This new direction with their gaming will put them as rivals to Facebook which pull around 375 million mobile and in-browser users.
Developers can expect a great set of opportunities to build exposure to their games. Business, too, will find opportunity with the inclusion of marketing and advertising initiatives. The sheer size of this new gaming social platform will do incredible things for business-types and users.
