Facebook Makes It Easier to Unfollow Pages

January 4, 2019

The feature will be available through a small, drop-down option that allows one to select how much they would like to see from a person or group. The option essentially will limit the number of “stories” that show up in the news feed though it may be possible that it also allows users to unfollow completely. An additional feature to the update will be that uses can see who is providing most posts on the feed for easier management.

“News Feed settings will now show a list of the top people, Pages and Groups that you’ve seen in your news Feed over the past week. You can choose to sort by people, Pages or Group posts, or see an overall summary. Unfollow any friend, Page or Group if you don’t want to see their stories in your News Feed. You can also see who you’ve unfollowed in the past and can choose to re-follow them at anytime.” – Facebook

This push is intended to keep users happy though it already appears that some advertisers and brands find it concerning. Ultimately it’s up to the businesses and companies to finely tune their approach to using the Facebook platform so they don’t overwhelm their followers thus driving them away.
